Houses with renewables worth more

Britons would pay more for a house with renewables

A recent survey by the Energy Saving Trust (EST) has demonstrated that a third of Britons are willing to pay more for a home fitted with renewable energy technologies. 35% of respondents said they’d pay an excess for a home with renewable energy technologies already installed, so this is worth considering when you fit your solar pv or thermal panels – they will give you a payback whilst you use them, and should give a further payback when you sell the house. This concurs with previous research by the Guardian newspaper, which stated that renewable energy could add 5%, and in some cases up to 9% extra value to a home when compared with a like-for-like identical neighbouring property.

Furthermore, 49% of citizens said they’d be interested to know if their property is suitable for renewable energy technologies – all of which bodes well for the coming years, with the feed-in-tariff instituted from April 2010.
