Glastonbury Festival Founder Goes Solar

Michael Eavis decided today to proceed with the largest privately-owned solar PV array in the UK

Michael Eavis – founder of the Glastonbury Festival, at Pilton in Somerset – has today agreed to proceed with what could be the largest privately owned solar PV array in the UK. Solarsense has been working with Michael towards this since early 2007, and the launch of the Clean Energy Cashback Scheme figures this week, was the final incentive needed to make the installation profitable.

The array will comprise over 1100 solar PV panels, manufactured in the UK. Total output is in excess of 200kWp, and the clean energy cashback scheme which will go live from April 2010 will ensure that Michaels’ return on his investment will be in the order of 12% per annum, guaranteed and index-linked to inflation for the next 25 years. The system should provide him with an annual income of at least‚£60,000, and will set the UK precedent for farms and other owners of large roofs across the UK.

We are obviously delighted that the hard work put into this project by all parties over the last 3 years is going to yield such a good return for Michael, and look forward to his lead being followed by many other farmers, commercial organisations and others over the coming years.

Well done Michael!
