Client

Swansea Arena is South Wales’ newest multi-purpose entertainment venue. Operated by the Ambassador Theatre Group, the flexible, multi-purpose Arena boasts up to 200 performances a year across music, comedy and theatre, as well as hosting conferences and events. The development of the Arena is the most significant achievement within phase one of Swansea city centre’s regenerative Copr Bay district. The Arena also forms part of the Swansea City and Waterfront Digital District project which is being part-funded by the £1.3 billion Swansea Bay City Deal.

The Arena sits as the crowning jewel within a 1.1-acre coastal park – the first new city centre park since the Victorian era – and surrounded by new independent restaurants, apartments, two new multi-storey car parks and a landmark ‘gateway’ bridge spanning Oystermouth Road, seamlessly connecting the city centre to Swansea’s Marina, the beach and the region’s famed coastal path.

Solar Panel System

Solarsense was approached by Swansea Council to design, install and maintain a 78kWp solar PV system for Swansea Arena. The solar PV array is comprised of 208 solar panels, which are fixed to the flat roof using a purpose built ballasted base frame. This mounting system ensures the weight of the solar array is kept to a minimum and allows the design engineers to optimise the pitch of the solar modules to balance performance against wind loading.

The arena is now part-powered by 208 solar panels, which help bring the venue to life. This includes powering more than 90,000 LED lights on the exterior skin of the multi-purpose building which help to promote the events taking place in the venue. The solar PV system is estimated to generate 73,512kWh of clean energy per year; reducing the venues carbon emissions by 20,360kg per annum.
