25/01/2011: STOP PRESS - Feed in Tariff cuts latest

new imageToday the Court of Appeal upheld an earlier ruling that government cuts to household solar subsidies were definitively illegal.
What this means to our customers is as follows:

- Installations completed (registered for FiTs) prior to the 3rd March 2012 will get 43.3p/kWh assuming that the government is not granted an appeal at the Supreme Court.
If such an appeal is sought and granted, then it remains a possibility that the rate of 21p/kWh could be implemented retrospectively for all installations completed between 12/12/11 and 3/3/12.

So, for the homeowner, our advice given the current information from DECC is as follows:

- Plan for 21p per kWh - with this FiT amount, the rate of return for your PV system will still be excellent – we have been reducing our system costs and as a result, our prices are highly competitive and allow superb returns on investment.

- If those installations done up until 3rd March are successful in attracting a 25 year contract at the 43.3p/kWh FiT rate, then the returns given our current pricing will be spectacular – in the region of 20% per annum.

In any eventuality, we will be very happy to speak to you and arrange for one of our sales consultants to come and discuss the options with you.

24//01/2012: Solarsense's annual MCS inspection...

new imageWe have just had our annual visit from the MCS inspectors, who come to assess the company premises and processes to ensure we are up to scratch with the requirements of the scheme.

Solarsense not only passed the renewal of accreditation for solar PV and solar thermal with flying colours, but we were also successfully accredited for the installation of heat pumps (air-to-water and water to water).

Our recent installation of a super efficient borehole heat pump which heats our building and provides our drinking water, as well as a 50kWp solar PV system on our own warehouse roof (pictured) can't have hurt the impression we made on the inspector...

22/12/2011: STOP PRESS! Feed in Tariff changes ruled unlawful

new imageOn 21st December a High Court judgement on the case brought against DECC by Friends of the Earth and a cohort of solar companies ruled that the government's recent cut of the 43.3p Feed in Tariff rate, before the end of the official consultation period, was unlawful.

DECC have already appealed the court's decision and it is not yet clear how this will affect the reality of Feed in Tariff changes in the New Year; we may not see a definitive judgement put into action for weeks or months.
We are therefore unable to give any definite figures for tariff rates or indeed prices at this time.

Nevertheless, as we had already adjusted for the proposed new FIT rate of 21p/kWh, we are prepared for whatever the final decision may be. And you can rest assured that whether the final tariff rate is brought down to 21p or snaps back up to the previous rate, we will be able to provide you with an installation which will earn a very strong rate of return.

We hope you enjoy the festive period and we look forward to speaking to you in 2012.

16/12/2011: Christmas close down dates

new imageThe Solarsense office will be closed from 23rd December and reopening on 9th January;  we are having an extra week off this year after the extreme rush to the Feed in Tariff deadline of 12th December.

05/12/2011: Solarsense support Movember

new imageIt's obviously been a trying time in the solar industry of late, and so many of our wonderful installers have been supporting Movember  in the last month that we felt a bit of light relief for charity was well deserved.
Together we donated over £400 for the Movember cause, which aims to raise awareness and funds for mens health charities including the Prostate Cancer charity. Although the month itself is now over, if you'd like to donate, just visit their page http://uk.movember.com/?home

Next year our Solarsense Movember effort will be even bigger and better, with our own official Movember Team of tash-growers to sponsor!
