Having now completed 4,500 solar power installations ( as of the end of February 2011), we have a vast reservoir of knowledge on building structures and how they can be augmented by, or adapted for, solar power generation.
Enhancing this existing experience, we have a team of engineers to whom we sub-contract designs that are specific to solar installations. Working to all relevant national and international standards, we can advise on the best engineering solutions to allow for safe PV and thermal installations to most buildings or structures.
One key example of how engineers can assist with project design is where a solar PV array is fitted to an existing building. The normal way of thinking is to examine the impact of the extra weight on the roof and supporting structure. However, a solar array can act as a foil, or sail, and may actually increase the chance of the roof lifting.
Our engineers are able to calculate these forces, and have the necessary experience with solar installations to be able to work proactively, generating solutions to problems, rather than just highlighting issues.
Please let us know if we can help to assess your solar project, and guide your design through any tricky issues.
