However, if there is a requirement for the roof to look as close as possible to tiles or slate, e.g. in National Parks or on listed buildings, we recommend Uni-Solar shingles or sunslates as the solution.
Solroof
Based on 130 Watt peak mono crystalline modules from Kyocera, the PV array is installed on battens and felt similar to concrete interlocking tiles. Each module is held in place with two stainless steel or BZP clips. When overlapped with adjacent modules a rain proof layer is formed for the ultimate P.V. roof - a weatherproof covering and electricity generator!
Installation is quick and simple taking about the same time as tiling a roof with conventional interlocking tiles.
Installed costs are around £5600/kWp or £630/m 2.
Sun-Slates
Where planning issues are critical, sun-slates are the closest resemblance of a natural slated roof and are installed similarly. PV area is 40mm x 32.7mm for each slate producing 12Wp, giving around 92Wp.m 2 of roof. Installed costs are around £10,000/kWp or £920/m 2.
