Power your home with smart, clean energy

Solar PV panels for homes

Solarsense offer a full turn-key solar PV design and installation service for new build properties and retrofit solar panels to existing homes.

Solar PV is the most popular smart energy technology installed in the UK. Over one million homeowners have now switched to solar panels to power their homes with free, clean energy generated by the sun.

Improved efficiency and advancements in technology mean that solar panels can be fitted almost anywhere and can take the form of glass, roof tiles, slates, membranes and more.

Save money and protect the planet

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), NASA and the world’s leading scientists have warned us that if we continue to burn fossil fuels such as gas, coal and oil we risk a man-made disaster of global scale.

We must increase and accelerate the rate at which we generate, store and distribute our energy from solar panels and other renewable sources if we are to avoid irreparable damage to our planet.

Solar is now a mass-produced product, delivered at a cost-competitive price. In fact, subsidy free solar power is now the cheapest form of energy in almost 60 countries. Whilst energy prices in the UK have risen year on year, the price of installing solar panels has plummeted, generating healthy returns and reduced payback periods.

Integrating solar panels with a home battery

Combining your solar panels with a battery has now become the most popular solution for homeowners. These hybrid systems offer much more control over your energy consumption and allow you to store your solar energy to power your electric vehicle or for use in the evenings.

Solarsense offer a full turnkey solution for solar battery storage that includes; analysing your suitability, specifying the right technologies for your home and installation. For more information please visit our residential solar battery page.

Charge your electric vehicle with solar energy

Driving an electric car that is charged by your solar panels is an excellent way to ensure your transportation is both cost-efficient and emissions-free. Many EV owners think of the purchasing a solar system as pre-buying their fuel for the next few years – at a cost that is very quickly repaid.

Heat your water for free with solar energy

The Apollo GEM is an innovative solar energy management product that will use all the surplus power generated by your PV system to produce hot water. Every unit of power used to heat the hot water in this way reduces imported energy by the same amount resulting in a significant saving in imported energy costs. For more information please see the Apollo data sheet from the download tab further down this page or visit our solar hot water page.

SolarEdge for homes

In a standard solar PV system, mismatches between individual solar panels can cause power losses across the entire PV system. In a SolarEdge installation, each solar panel is connected to a power optimiser, which maximises solar energy production from each module.

If an individual module underperforms due to shading, soiling, bird droppings or another means, it will not affect the performance of the others. This maximises your energy production and increases the efficiency of your system. SolarEdge is particularly useful for homes with shading issues, oddly shaped roofs or a variety of roof orientations.

Honest, impartial advice

We operate with an ‘open book’ policy and offer honest, expert advice rather than adopting a hard sales approach. We will guide you through the installation process and offer help in regard to applications, commissioning your energy performance certificate (EPC) and even assist with planning applications (if needed).

Award-winning approach

We are renewable energy experts and specialise in solar panel installations. Our first-class design, delivery and support has resulted in excellent customer feedback and more than 19 industry awards including; National Solar Installer of the Year and Residential Solar Project of the Year.

Proven quality

We are independent contractors, have no ties to specific products and only source tried and tested, ‘tier one’ products from the world’s leading manufacturers. This offers proven quality and ensures that your warranties will remain intact for the lifetime of your system.

BENEFITS AT A GLANCE

How can solar panels benefit my home?

  • Protect the planet whilst saving money

Drastically cut your carbon footprint and power your home with clean, renewable energy.

  • Lower your energy bills

Generate and store free, clean electricity and save money on importing expensive, ‘dirty’ energy bought from the grid.

  • Generate a healthy return on investment

A typical solar panel system will provide free electricity for more than 25 years, achieve a healthy return on investment and pay for itself over a number of years.

  • Protect your family from rising costs

Pre-purchase your electricity at a fixed unit price, forecast your long-term energy costs and protect your home from future energy price hikes.

  • Heat your water for free

Maximise the efficiency of your solar PV system by heating your water rather than exporting your free energy back to the grid.

  • Charge your electric vehicle for free

Integrate your solar panels with an electric vehicle charge point to run your car for free when charged at home.

Everything you need to make an informed decision

What solar panels do Solarsense install?
Solarsense are independent contractors; we have no ties to specific products and only source tried and tested, ‘tier one’ products from the world’s leading manufacturers. This offers proven quality and ensures that your warranties will remain intact for the lifetime of your system. PV modules (panels) can be fitted almost anywhere and can take the form of glass, roof tiles, slates, membranes and more. The key is to identify the correct products to deliver your specific goal. If you have a preferred product or specific manufacturer that you would like to use, we can build this into your quotation and offer advice to similar panels or a like for like system.
Are there any subsidies for installing commercial solar PV?
No, not at this current time. The Feed-in Tariff (FIT) scheme was closed in March 2019 for new registrations and there are no subsidies on the horizon. Solar PV technology has matured past the need for subsidisation and the energy savings alone are strong enough to provide very healthy financial returns.
Is it still worth installing solar panels now that the Feed-in Tariff has closed?
Yes, despite the removal of Government Feed-in Tariff, installs have been forecast to continue at the current rate and even increase in 2019 due to falling costs and increased awareness of the environmental and long-term economic benefits sought from installing solar panels.
How are solar panels fixed to my roof? Will they cause damage?
Solar panels are typically mounted on a rail system that is fixed to the roof. A solar PV system is designed to maintain the strength and integrity of your roof, whilst remaining watertight.
How long do solar panels last and does efficiency drop over time?
High quality solar panels are likely to last up to 40 years and degrade by approximately 0.5% per annum. The average warranty for a solar panel is between 10-12 years however in many cases it is possible to extend this period on purchase. SunPower currently offer the longest warranty as standard of up to 25 years. Your solar expert will explain all of the benefits and drawbacks of each panel when specifying your products.
