How to go about getting the Feed in Tariff
Once you have a solar PV system installed you will need to register it with your electricity supplier - or another registered Feed in Tariff Supplier - in order to start receiving the Feed in Tariff.
For a list of registered FIT suppliers, please see our FAQ here.
Although we can offer advice and help with this process, it is something that the installer (we) cannot carry out on behalf of the system owner (you).
This means you will need to apply to become a microgenerator (someone who generates their own electricity on a small scale.) It is a good idea to request your application form as early as you can so as to be well prepared, but the forms themselves are quite straightforward.
We will notify the regional Distribution Network Operator (DNO), which is the organisation that controls the operation of the electricity grid in your region, when we have installed, connected and commissioned your solar PV system. You will then be able to register for the Feed in Tariff.
The majority of electricity companies will request a copy of your Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) certificate to back up your application. We will send this to you once your system has been installed, but don't worry if you happen to misplace it - we keep a copy on file so we can easily send you another copy, just give us a call.
We want this registration process to go as smoothly as possible for all our customers, so please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any queries.

What do I do about an Export Meter?
The Feed in Tariff application forms often have a question about Export Meters, which has caused some confusion to some of our customers.. Export Meters are not required unless you intend to 'sell' more than half of your total generated electricity back to your supplier.
This is quite rare - the usual procedure at the moment is that your supplier will assume you use 50% of what you generate and sell the other 50% back to the grid. This is called your 'deemed export' and your energy company will generally send you a cheque each quarter based on this amount.
If you think you will sell back more than half of what you generate (for example, if you have extremely low daytime energy consumption you might use less than half of what you generate), some energy companies will install an export meter.
This may be free of charge or not depending on the company, but you should contact them to discuss this. We will not install an export meter, as the electricity companies will not accept an export meter that we have installed.
